![]() This means they can enter a attack animation immediately, and sometimes even BEFORE they spawn. There is no animation for them entering, they're just there in a flash. In the chaos of combat you can barely hear it, and i was caught out from behind or to the sides DOZENS of times because of an enemy i wasn't even aware had entered the arena. DS3 doesn't have a spawn system for the majority of the game, most of the enemies are already there when you enter a area, so one had to be created for the crucible. This is both so the player is aware of an enemy spawning, and gives them a chance to react to the new situation. This is present throughout the first two games. In the previous two games, enemy spawns are loudly announced by a sound queue, and the enemies have a spawn-in animation. Not to mention the spawn system in the crucible is idiotic. This not only wastes your time but forces you to go through many waves multiple times just to learn a boss's moveset (there are bosses every 25 waves, and if you die to them cause you don't know their moves, you have to start again). I'm not sure what Gunfire's obsession with killing the player and making them start again is in this game but it carries on into the crucible two-fold. It just feels so hollow and empty.Įven if you didn't get something good, the crucible runs in DS2 were quite short because even on the hardest difficulty, you didn't die too often. And i say again, why no more weapons or abilities or combat moves? It's all just passive upgrades like +20% health which you can't actually "use" in combat if you get what i mean, you can't *see* your new gear in action (barring the fashion itself). In addition to this, knowing what you're grinding for takes away some of the excitement on finally receiving the item (imo, this might differ for people) but when i played through it, i felt a lot more excited when i got a cool possessed weapon out of the crucible (after 25 waves) than getting one of the new armours (after all 100 waves). The 3 armours are 60 each and the 4 enchantments are 30 each. ![]() How bloated? I ran through the entire crucible (1-101) and got 65 tokens. There are no unique weapons or abilities, just passive upgrades and new fashion at a bloated price. I'm gonna tell you right now, none of them are worth it for the time required to put in to get them. The unique loot comes in the form of 3 new armours and 4 new enchantments. Most of the items are stuff you can grind for or buy of vulgrim for much cheaper price, making me question why they are even options. In DS3 the loot takes the form of tokens you can spend at a shop. It was exciting because you didn't always know what you were going to get, but you always got *something* useful. ![]() DS2 gave you semi-random loot, with power scaling to how well you did in that crucible run. It's more or less the same as Darksiders 2 crucible except the rewards system is nowhere near as satisfying. After completing the crucible and the "secret" boss fight i felt entirely ripped off for what it actually gave me. Long version: First off, this should have been part of the main game. Short version: Not worth your money or time. (Keep in mind i'm a sassy bitch and i use sarcasm *heavily*). So after almost 30 hours with the combat system in this game, all on apocalyptic difficulty, i felt pretty prepared for the crucible. So what say you, challenger?
